03 Jan It’s FINALLY Over!
After 4 longs months of studying more vocabulary than I have ever seen and math that I haven’t touched in 5 years, I have FINALLY finished my GRE!
For those who don’t know what that is, it’s the Graduate Required Exam that I needed to take to get into graduate school in the US. I decided at the end of the summer [a little late, I know] that I wanted to apply to American graduate schools, but needed to take this test to get in. It’s just like the SATs but slightly harder. I had never done the SATs so it was pretty much learning from scratch.
I spent all first semester studying for my 5 classes in tandem with the GRE prep classes and homework. I studied the GRE material on my days off and weekends and even studied in Jamaica. To be honest though, as much as I had studied, I thought I was going to bomb it.
My head felt like it was going to explode with all the new words I was learning and it could not wrap itself around the math that I hadn’t seen in years. Last night, I felt I was doomed.
I wrote the test today, which was composed of 2 essays, the verbal section and the math section. Throughout the entire test I thought I was getting everything wrong. Well, I think my essays were alright, considering I’ve been writing essay after essay for my undergrad. Besides that though, I literally thought I was getting every question wrong.
At the end of the test, the computer gives you a preliminary score [does not include your essays because those are marked separately]. As I clicked the button to end my test, my heart literally stopped as I awaited the grades on the screen.
Holy crap.
I actually did OK!
I had, by some MIRACLE, gotten decently above average in the verbal section! The math…well… I didn’t bomb it! I scored a little below average, but it was way better than my practice scores and my grades in high school math! And let’s be honest, math and I are not friends.
How in the hell did I pull that off?! Wow haha. I am SO relieved.
So now this is done, and it’s time to focus on my applications and personal essays. Hopefully, my scores are high enough to win me admissions into the schools I want. If not, well at least I did my best! [And didn’t bomb it!]
Yayyyy
K time to lie down, I’m exhausted!
