16 Oct Cancer Diary: The internet is an insane place
The internet is an insane place.
I don’t want to leave this earth and my face used as evidence for things that aren’t real or true.
My last Reel, where I talk about how I’m about to become a victim of the Canadian healthcare system, became this battle cry for some of the most insane beliefs and conspiracy theories all over the internet.
My Reel was used at least over a thousand times, cut and twisted and used to say, like, the most insane things.
For instance, some guy who claims to be a doctor took my story and a blog I posted years ago on Uncover Ostomy about getting the Covid vaccine, and somehow used that to explain that that’s what gave me cancer.
Sir, I got cancer because I have colitis in my rectum, and it’s very well documented that the inflammation from colitis can cause cancer.
So, if you had done, like, 30 seconds of research, you would know that that is why I now have rectal cancer.
Not to mention that this guy is, like, the founder of believing that horse medicine is going to cure cancer.
And he has this insane online following of all these people that, like, believe with their heart and soul that he has somehow found the cure to cancer.
And if I just listen to him, if I just follow his protocol, I will beat this. How?
But isn’t the same group of people the ones that believe big pharma is only out to profit off of them and to not believe anything that big pharma says?
Yes, big pharma is trying to make money so that they can reinvest in more R&D and more clinical trials and creating more treatments that can treat cancer.
Like, that’s how industry works.
But no, this one guy with a Substack, that guy’s not trying to profit off of you at all?
But again, couldn’t do 30 seconds of research to know how I got cancer.
So if you see my face or my name or my likeness in any way related to that guy and that theory, no, I don’t believe that.
So that was one thing.
And then, of course, the other side of the internet took me saying that I’m going to be a victim of the Canadian healthcare system to mean that socialized medicine is terrible and you shouldn’t support it.
I made it very clear in the caption of that Reel that I support universal healthcare.
I specifically said that I was going to be a victim of the Canadian healthcare system because most people don’t understand that in Canada, healthcare is provincially managed.
It’s the fault of Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Health Minister Sylvia Jones that has allowed my early detected rectal cancer to spread to stage 4, because it took 5 weeks to do and get all the information I needed to get to determine if I could have curative surgery when it turns out, in all that time, my cancer spread.
But I don’t support how the Ontario government has decimated the system that typically works if it’s properly supported.
They’re the reason that I might not survive this cancer. I know that the internet is crazy. I don’t believe in any of these crazy conspiracy theories. I do support socialized medicine. I can’t believe I’m here even having to say this.
Clearly, I had to because the internet is a fucking insane place.
