Cancer Diary: Time for radiation treatment

Five times a week for 5 weeks, I committed to the hospital for radiation treatment.

Each way was 45 minutes, which would have been an hour and a half if I hadn’t moved next to the subway.

But taking it meant I could travel alone and not inconvenience anyone else with my treatment schedule.

The cancer pain required strong meds to keep me functional, so it wasn’t safe for me to drive.

On this day, I had blood work at Mount Sinai to make sure the chemo meds that go with radiation weren’t causing any issues. Thankfully, there weren’t any.

Except we know what that meant last time.

Then it was next door to Princess Margaret where I went for my radiation in the basement down a few flights of stairs. I’m not sure if it’s a safety thing or they just like to hide us in the basement.

Regardless, I was early so I had a bit of time to do some work. Like always, I was taken in the back then prepped and positioned for the machine.

And after about 15 minutes of that, it’s home.
