25 May So This is What the Real World’s Like

Today I started my first day at my new job for the public affairs team at a hospital.

I have my own desk, my own computer, an hour long lunch break, and no one really telling me what to do.  My fellow officemate though it was hilarious that I was used to 15 minute lunch breaks and punching in with time cards like I used to at my old retail and serving jobs.

I didn’t do much today other than read a lot of material on the hospital and come up with the main idea I’ll be working through with the team. I was hired to incorporate social networking sites into their media strategy. It’s going to be tough. They need a lot of work. But I already have tons of random scraps of papers with ideas and projects to work on.

What’s even weirder is that I feel as if I’ve just entered the future of my career. I’m not just some intern answering phone calls or running to get the coffee. Instead, I’m actually creating my own ideas, proposing them to my boss, and creating a product.

This is awesome.
