06 Jul For the Love of Friends and Food
There’s nothing better than enjoying some great food with some amazing friends.
Tonight I had the pleasure of spending my evening with two of my friends Kaitlin and Lauren. We cooked, we drank, we ate, we laughed, and had an amazing night.
It’s nights like these I am extremely grateful for my ostomy.
Without it…well… I’d be dead. BUT, theoretically, I would still be sick, isolated, alone, and worst of all, on bowel rest! (Aka the dreaded “no-food diet”.)
Nothing was worse than being stuck in the hospital for weeks on end and being told I was not allowed to have ANY food pass through my GI track. I was hooked up to intravenous food sources and told that ice chips would make the hunger go away. Yeah right.
It is amazing how many fast food commercials you notice on television when you are going mentally insane from starvation.
Enjoying white wine, bruschetta, salad, pasta with avocado sauce, fruit, and cinnamon buns really makes you appreciate the little bag that made it all possible.
Having amazing company to compliment the food is just a bonus.

Posted at 06:01h, 06 JulyI too used to have to due the TPN and ICE CHIPS diet. They both were very rough on my mental health as well as my family watching me go through it. But now I am at the other end of my clothes closet and into my “Fat man clothes”.
Do you find that there are certain exercises that you can and can not do because of your ostomy. I have crohn’s disease, had so many surgeries that my stomach looks like a road map. I have been told to loose weight and all the things that I enjoyed doing in the past, I have been told I can’t do anymore. All I can think of now is swimming and now that it is summer, they don’t have the Aqua Fit classes until the fall. Any suggestions??

Posted at 14:28h, 09 JulyI have not found any exercise that I can’t do! I was told not to box or wrestle or water ski, but I’ve been able to do everything else.
I run, do yoga, dance, do weight training, and sit ups.
My ostomy hasn’t stopped me from any of that :]

Posted at 08:07h, 06 JulySheila, I too have CD and an ostomy. I have never been told not to do any kind of exercise. I do a fair bit of hiking and now roller derby, in the winter skiing and curling. I can’t think of anything but maybe power lifting that would be dangerous to do.

Posted at 19:16h, 06 JulyHorray Jess! This makes me feel so hopeful.
I’ve been there with my little girl and we are still struggling after three years. We’ve looking at surgery (I believe with the same surgeon/doc you had). Is there anyway I can pm you (I’m not a big facebook person and don’t know the etiquette etc, sorry, old!)

Posted at 18:18h, 11 JulyI am just getting started on the Internet. I am retired now.
I can see that there is a rich diversity in the blogs I am reading and I am
trying to leave some comment whereever I visit. I think I really
appreciate the basics of what you have here in this blog.
Well you know I have my own blog and website now. It is fun, to be sure.
I have incuded a website and email address. I think it is
ok that I incuded them since there seems to be a place to do that.
Hope so anyway. TheVeryBest2You 13 11

Posted at 14:42h, 17 JulyThis site can be a walk-through for the entire information you needed about this and didn’t know who to ask. Glimpse here, and you’ll definitely discover it. There is noticeably a bundle to know about this. I assume you made certain good points in options also.
