15 Jun “I Admit You”
These are the three words I heard as I knelt down to receive my ceremonial hood on the UWO convocation stage.
Yesterday, I became an official graduate of the University of Western Ontario as I received my Bachelor of Arts in Honors Specialization Media and Information Technoculture.
Wait. What?
I’m sitting, writing about graduating, and yet I feel like it didn’t happen.
I don’t feel like a graduate in the least.
After our morning convocation, my amazing fellow graduate friends and I got together to celebrate our achievement and actually embrace being graduates. I thought this would help it sink in.
We sat around and enjoyed each other’s company with yummy snacks while taking silly pictures and getting ourselves ready to go to the bar for a great night.
The whole, “being a graduate” thing began to slowly sink in as, last night, we began to think about our future. The mother of the household we were at came to our group and suggested we play a “party game.” She told us that we should each write a list consisting of where we thought each person, including ourselves, would be in 10 years. Then, in 10 years, we would get together and read them to each other and see if it had come true. It was the first time that day I actually felt like I was getting older. I had to sit and think about my future!
After we all wrote down our visions of one another and ourselves, we read them aloud while giggling uncontrollably, before we stuffed them all in an envelope for safe keeping for the next 10 years.
The summary of my future according to my friends?
I am going to be a successful career woman with no kids or husband (or already on to, or past, my second husband) with botox in my monthly routine.
Aren’t they sweet? Haha
We ended the game, wiped our tears of laughter from our faces, and began to get ready to head to one of the popular bars in good old London, Ontario. It was like any other night during the school year.
We forgot about our futures for the night.
Has my life really changed in any way? Nope.
Ok, it’s been a day. But like I said, I don’t feel any different. I may be the owner of an extremely expensive fancy piece of paper with some words on it, but I still feel the same.
Just plain, old me.
Let’s see how plain, old me does in New York City…
Happy graduation to everyone else in the next coming weeks :]

Posted at 04:05h, 15 JuneCongratulations! You have taken the right steps that will hopefully allow you to find a career that you love! Most don't and for that you should be extrememly proud. Good luck in New York City! If you go to the convention in August maube you can stop by my booth and grab another undercover! I'll hook you up free since you graduated! LOL! My Mom is Barbara Champ, she sent you an ostomy wrap awhile back. I hope it is helping you! Its a new product so if you have any suggestions let us know! I've only had my ostomy for a year, but I'm used to it now. It's not so bad after all! : ) Take care of yourself and again CONGRATS!!

Posted at 04:05h, 15 JuneCongratulations, picture your successes line them up and believe. Having learned from you a different view of how to see one's world I think your future is full of success. If you can teach an old dog like me something new you have huge potential.
I think what you've done so far fits the old quote "if you can dream it, you can do it." I wish you all the best in the next chapter of your journey.
Best wishes
Doug
