I agree with everything you say. It’s hard to get people’s attention these days. I feel like the images on this site aren’t merely sexual for the sake of being sexual, considering that you don’t find images like these anywhere else with regards to ostomies. In this instance, the kind of images are actually a unique and original way of communicating to people that you can be courageous with an ostomy.

I am still disheartend to hear that you feel those with ostomies need to give into the "mainstream" of the commercialized industry and use sex as a way to get others attention. Shame! There are so many things wrong with that comment that I have no idea where to begin. First off, being normal and being mainstream are not necessarily good things. I have always thought that one can achieve greatness if they can have one unique thought. With that, the same goes for actions. If you can step above and beyond what is considered "normal," and create your own thoughts and actions, than you are probably far better than the norm. The norm is not always healthy, and that includes the approach our culture has taken towards making sexualization an eye catcher and way to get people’s attention and "respect," is that is what you want to call it. I go back to my original comments I had made before, you can stand out beyond creating yourself as a sexual image. Not just you, but individuals in general. That is a huge problem these days, take into account the Dove Campaign. If you have not looked at it, I advise you to. Also, books such as "Too Sexy Too Soon." All of these show how our marketing industry has created an way to make inidviduals think there is a way, often unrealistic, of being sexy by flaunting a body image. Sexy comes from within. It comes from having respect for yourself and then in hand having others respect you. It comes from you mental and spiritual being, not the high gloss airbrushed sexy photos found in our American culture. I am sorry that you feel the need to fall victim to our industry’s ploy that is leaving many girls, young women, and women with little respect for themselves, and in hand…men holding the same.
