So glad you have this attitude . My husband was diagnosed with FAP and discovered his Mother and Sister both died from this . He had his surgery and an ostomy . Sadly he only lasted 3 years as diagnose was after discover of tumor . As is inherited FAP my daughter was diagnosed at 15 and 16 had a resection and at 20 had a J pouch . She did have a ostomy for 3 months while j pouch healed . She has 2 daughters and the youngest was diagnosed via genetic test at 5 years old . My daughter is 51 is seen every 3 months as follow since her surgery as she could have multiple types of cancer . So far so good . My Grandaughter is 20 now and they are waiting to see when the dr advise for surgery . Now my daughter has had in recent years polyps in her j pouch or what seem like polyps at one time they counted 50 they then put her on meds and they reduced and only removed a couple from j pouch that were not malignant. She was waiting for them to advise ostomy but not at this time . Her first surgery she told the dr he had from her belly button down to figure out how to resolve the surgery as she was going to were a bikini . The day she got out of the hospital we went to buy that bikini. So thank my daughter that you didn’t have the surgery when they used to slice you down the middle to remove the colon . She worked with dr Galernt in New York City and a local surgeon to accomplish that . So enjoy your bikinis and thank you to my Carolyn for saying you will not disfigure me .

    Jessica,
I had my ostomy surgery in 1989, long before you were born. I truly wish you were around back then. Maybe I wouldn’t hate myself so much today if that were the case. The only good thing that came out of my surgery was 4 weeks after the surgery, I played the best round of golf in tournament that I probably shouldn’t have been playing in.

Thank you. I have a colostomy from an infection in my colon. I did not suffer like you did. I was in a coma in the hospital close to three yrs ago. Kay
