01 Apr Don’t You Get Paid to be Funny?
Today, I got a tweet from @mizlisa19 that alerted me to a comment made by fellow Canadian and “funny man” Jim Carrey.
Apparently, Mr. Carrey felt humiliated by Fox News for making fun of an online video that he had made and felt the need to respond to their criticism by calling the network a “media colostomy bag.”
Sigh.
I’m gonna level with you Jimmy – I’ve always had a soft spot for you.
I usually find slapstick humor trivial and crude, but somehow, you had won my heart over the years.
But this? This is what you could come up with? You get paid an obscene amount of money to be funny and this is what you could come up with?
I’m almost more upset at the lack of humor in your insult than the insinuation you were trying to make about Fox News.
Ok – not really.
I’m pretty disappointed in your use of the ostomy.
To be honest – I’m usually not very sensitive to ostomy jokes. In fact, I make a ton of them myself and literally roll over in laughter when my friends make them, as well. I even have some pretty good ones, if I do say so myself. There are a ton of jokes that can be made about the ostomy in good taste and good faith and I do it all the time.
But this comment? This was not one of those.
This was one that had the intention to cause harm. And it framed this lifesaving surgery in a negative light. In the media. In front of millions of people.
So thanks, Mr. Carrey.
Now I’m going to have to be even more naked on the internet to show the good side of the bag.

On this note of ostomy awareness, I’d like to remind you guys that on Tuesday the 2nd we will be picking the winner of the “Where’s Your Ostomy” contest to be featured on the blog and FB page. Don’t forget to join the contest!

Posted at 03:12h, 01 Aprilyeah, he should have said what he really wanted to say which was that Fox News is full of f s-t (which I would agree with) but instead of keeping it simple and to the point he had to drag all of us into it…
thanks for speaking out and bringing it to our attention

Posted at 13:08h, 01 AprilI couldn’t agree with you more Jess. I don’t understand why there is a need to insult a beautiful life saving device. I too, make jokes about my ileostomy and so do my family and friends. But, we know in our hearts how incredible my life has become since having my stoma, Oscar. Comments that degrade having an ostomy are not only shallow but ignorant and insensitive. It is comments like this that encourage us to continue to stand, share our stories, and be proud of who we are.
Thank-you for encouraging us all!

Posted at 13:41h, 01 AprilI didnt take offense to Jim Carreys comments. In fact, maybe just by saying that maybe he has people wondering just what the hell a colostomy bag is. Fox news is a cheesy news station that alot of times runs their mouths without fact checking their stories. I think we all know what an over filled bag of poop feels like and his description isnt far off the mark when relating it to the Fox News Network! We can cry foul, but I remember a few years ago that Derek Jeter made a comment on how an ostomy patient couldnt play 3rd base for a baseball team…Thats more of a slight than anything Jim Carrey has said in my book. And Jess, you dont have to be more naked on the internet. What youve been doing is far and above what alot of us are doing to raise awareness. Dont change a thing! But if you feel like you just have to get more naked I dont think any of us would mind…wait did I just write that? : )You have my permission to still love Mr. Carrey and his outlandish acting! lol
