Happy World Ostomy Day & 3 Year Anniversary!

It was 3 years ago that Uncover Ostomy was launched. While the actual launch was on October 3rd, 2009, Uncover Ostomy was launched in tandem with World Ostomy Day of that year. Now, 3 years later, the campaign has grown exponentially and is the biggest ostomy awareness campaign to date.

Today, I am celebrating the third anniversary of Uncover Ostomy, as well as World Ostomy Day in Italy.

I’ve only been at the Italian World Ostomy Conference for about 24 hours, but I can already see how much of an impact the campaign has made here. I’ve been trying to write this post for about 25 minutes because I keep having people come up to me in the lobby of the hotel to take pictures with me. Everyone has been telling me how much they have learned and grown because of the campaign, and I can hardly believe it. It’s surreal to hear all this from a group of 1000 people in a country across the sea from where it all began.

I wouldn’t be here in Italy, meeting other ostomates and spreading positive ostomy awareness if it wasn’t for what all of you have made Uncover Ostomy to be. Because of all of you who read my blogs, all of you who participate in conversation and support on the Facebook page, and all of you who share the campaign with all of your friends and family, the campaign has made a worldwide impact.

Thank you all so much.

So, I hope that, on World Ostomy Day, wherever you may be, you are spreading positive ostomy awareness!

Don’t worry about Italy, though. I’ve got it covered 😉

Happy anniversary to us and UO and Happy World Ostomy Day!

I can’t believe it’s been 3 years since my surgery this month! The campaign was perfect timing for me; it was exactly what I needed to get through everything.
