Ostomy Ambassador- Justin

I came up with the idea of the Ostomy Ambassador thing about a month ago when I received a very random message from a guy named Justin. Justin was a camper at ostomy camp this year who I never actually had a chance to talk to. He was in the older group and I had to spend my time with the younger kids so we really never had a chance. He seemed quiet and shy but was definitely a good guy. I knew that this ostomy thing was new to him and I wished I could have  talked to him more.

To my surprise, Justin ended up finding me on Facebook and messaged me himself. He said that he had seen this website and wanted to know if I could help him out. He told me how he struggled to tell people about his ostomy but he wanted that to change.

So after talking to him for a bit here and there, he told me that he was going to start telling his friends about it.

And he did!

Justin messaged me one night about how he told a few of his friends and was shocked at how well they took it. A week or so later he messaged me again saying he had told more friends and they too were completely accepting. The week after, again, he was telling more and more people about his ostomy and noticing that it was easier every time!

Told ya!

So, Justin, you are an ostomy ambassador, and I thank you  for giving me this idea.

Keep it up!

I have actually been very open about my ostomy and as I always carry an emergancy bag with me, will share with people what one actually looks like. Most people are very interested to understand how it works and only once did I find someone who was a bit grossed out (and that is among a good 50 people). It also always helps that for people who know me it is clear that I am much healthier now with the bag than I was before I had it!

Im gettin pretty tired of keeping my ostomy 2 myself,Im 13 and had UC for a year before I needed Ileostomy surgery (same age as u lol) Ive had it 4 mounths now and Ive decided now that I really dont mind who knows about it now. If they cant accept it thats there prob and uve shown me that so thanks! But how do I tell them? sure most of my friends know about it and theyve been great but the thing is they just dont understand what it really is. I need to explain better. But I cant just say it out the blue. Im ready to let the world know now but Im just not sure how.

This blog has helped me so much, Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Eleanorxxxxx (Iwould be soooo happy if u got back 2 me somehow)

Hi sorry for messin u about! I hope u dont mind me aski but how many people have u told? Some of my friends know about it and theyve taken it really well and its made me feel really positive about wot other people mite say about it but I think its just coz I didnt really explain well. So Im still really nervous about tellin people who maybe arent exactly my besty friends – and thats fustraiting coz it shouldnt have to be a secret. I just dont want to get teased at school.
So if u have told people out ur close family and friends, how and when did u break it to them? Hope its not to personal u dont have to say if it is!
Thank u soo much 4 doing this, I wasnt reallly expecting anything so this is really nice! xx

Umm I think its been like 11 or 12 ppl maybe less I can't remember I jus told them about this site to go to it and read up on it and then jus talked to them one on one so that they hear it the right way and not from some one else the wrong way so ya try and talk to ppl before u think its going to go around the school 🙂
